Prayer for Rustle from Next

This is the prayer that Todd Stelmach prayed for Rustle Church on behalf of Next Church on Rustle's 5th Anniversary:

5 years - has it really been that long?
5 years - has it only been that long?
However long ago it feels to us,when we sent a band of adventurers out of Next Church down to the old Polish Hall, it started something that felt an awful lot like family.
Like blood.
Sister, daughter, baby brother, distant cousin
whatever the relation, our connection to you proves blood runs thicker than water.
but like any family our feelings are complicated.
It was hard to let some of our best and brightest leave us to start you. its left us feeling empty. like something significant was missing.
That said, we have never felt more proud, nor have we been more quick to boast about any other group of people under the sun.
We thank our God every time we remember you.

So today on your 5th birthday, we want to bless you:
1st and foremost, we want to remind you that the blood that connects us as family is the blood of Jesus Christ that was shed to forgive us all of our sins, and to start something that feels alot like family. A family meant to support us through all of Life's twists and turns. A family that everyone's allowed to join. A family that will one day be made perfect and whole.
And this day will come! The Kingdom of God is at hand!

So here is our blessing to you:

May your hearts frequently Rustle with the stirrings of the Holy Spirit.
May you be a light on Russell street that Rustles up all sorts of souls - like moths to a flame.
May the General store always be stuffed to the brim. May you always be provided for and have much to provide.
May you easily Rustle up feelings of Love and Welcome for everyone who enters your door.

Finally, we pray that your Love for God in Jesus Christ would be hot, not cold and especially not luke warm.

We pray that you would know that God's love for you is hot and never cooling.

If you do these things well, you will love each other well. And love for one another is what will make you different than the neighbourhood and city around you.

Pennycost

2000 years ago a strong wind blew in and spiritual power was left on the believers. Jesus promised this. We remember and celebrate this day and call it Pentacost. 50 days on the other side of Christ's death. Our sacred texts hinted about it. The brooding over the deeps was left for us. Our church needs it. It may have been here all the while but in some mysterious moment the promise of never being orphaned was gifted in the person of the Holy Ghost. This too changed everything. A few sundays ago I asked the Spirit Led ones of our church (each and everyone who invites) to ask the Ghost to create in you something for our church and in 120 days bring it to a brand new celebratory day called Pennycost (your two cents).

I said if you are knitters pearl one drop a stitch and make something holy. If you are musical ask Jesus to grant you a new tune. If you can cook then plan to bring a creation to us so that the "face of the ground" will become brand new. John Porter did this when he redeemed the little and the least of the hoagie house remnants. He changed the ground!! Literally and figuratively. He fed. He gave. He created!! Some of you have bellies full to attest to this!

I was not challenging you I was setting a fire under you. igniting what was latent in you. God wants to keep the "us" in Rustle and He is glorified by our spiritual creations. Listeners listen, painters paint, singers sing, teachers teach, lovers love, dreamers dream and the elderly are never too old to reveal Gods deep mercy, grace and visionary kingdom here on earth. No one is outside this favour. None. All of us bring.

If this needs clarity I am more than happy to sit and sup and talk in length about the gracious act of God through His Son and by His Spirit. So what are you waiting for? The Spirit has come - now go forge and by doing so you will refresh the face of the planet.

May it be so.

* First plant five rows of peas: Preparedness, promptness, perseverance, politeness and prayer.
* Next to them plant three rows of squash: Squash gossip, squash criticism, squash indifference.
* Then put in five rows of lettuce: Let us be faithful, let us be unselfish, let us be loyal, let us love one and other, let us be truthful.
* No garden is complete without turnips: Let us turn up with a smile, turn up with a new idea, turn up with real determination, turn up with gratitude for a new day.

Tomorrow we will be firing up the movie projector and bringing out "The Nativity
Story".

An excellent film to remind us all why we call it Christmas and not just happy
holidays.....

There will be maybe some leftovers, popcorn and perhaps even some birthday cake.
This Sunday will be low key and relaxed, we'd like all our families and ministries
to savour these moments as well.

Message from Next Church on the occasion of Rustle's 4th birthday

like all births it was both messy and beautiful.

some could not bear to watch, and snuck out the side door.

others stayed until the end and and watched you take your first few ragged breaths.

when the construction noise was done, you invited the neighbourhood for a meal. people came from next door and up the street. a few drove cars and parked on the slope outside. people sat round scarred wooden tables and on used plaid couches. they told frank stories, gazed at the cowboy boots in the hall, and wondered if they would come back.

days, months and four years passed.

you sang story songs in the basement on tuesdays and thursdays. on fridays there were birthday parties. on saturdays, weddings. on sundays, people were baptized in a grey trough that was full to overflowing, and wrapped with faded towels worn from washing.

you left your tender baby skin and unfolded your limbs. you said your first words. took steps, and occasionally burst into a run.

we gasp at the wonder of it.

happy birthday rustle.

may you grow to be a grandmother and a great great aunt. may you welcome many through your doors, and send many out more fully who they are. may you make beauty in the neighbourhood. may you know and love the Maker.

Soupfest happens next Sunday April 25th. Bring your best dish of homemade soup. There will be prizes. Last year the winner won an expired gift card from the Bay. This year we plan to give away even grander prizes!

shari doseger presents her new show this month at windmills restaurant. It is called suitcase of surprises. Check it out.

Our bimonthly with meetings happen this month on Wednesday April 28th at 630 pm right here at the ranch.

The rustle street go cart academy meets each Friday night with our fantastic neighbourhood boys. Wish us all the very best things.

Offering envelopes are available upon request. We are most glad you give.

We are putting the garden in soon. Please speak to john hartt if you want to plant, water, weed and harvest.

Please continue to pray healing for the sick among us. While you are at it pray for the lonely, the oppressed and the release for the captives.

I pray for unity for the Rustle board. That they can function in love and compassion to move as Your hands and feet in Rustle. That they will spend time listening to You and knowing what Your heart is for the community. That they will know what needs to be acted on now and what needs to be acted on later. That they would be balanced and peaceful. I pray that all of them may be one that the world may believe that You sent Jesus. Give them the glory that you gave Jesus to bring them to complete unity.

But most of all, I pray over this board love. That you would love this community as Jesus loves it. That you would love this Church as Jesus loves it. That every move or decision you make will be made out of love.

On Sunday February 22, there will be a welcoming shower for Tigerlilly (Sarah and Paul) and a goodbye party for Brandon and Karen and family. Please join us as we celebrate with these 2 families. We invite everyone to bring potluck food to eat after the service.
The only glitch might be that Feb 22 is Tigerlilly's due date and should she decide to stick with that date, it might be hard to get Sarah and Paul and co. to come to the party!

Rustle: A Next Church
Prayer Letter - July 11, 2008

We give thanks to God for the things taking place at Rustle.

Board
An official board was elected at the WITH meeting at the end of May. This is a step toward becoming a fellowship in the Free Methodist Church and also to being recognized with charitable status.
The new board is Karen, Jordin, John, Paul, Joel, Lisa M. and Aphra. The WITH Church meetings that occur on the last Wednesday evening of the month will still be the main avenue for discussion of Church issues.
The board meetings will be the first Wednesday evening of the month and the prayer meetings will move to the middle Wednesdays in the month.

The back garden
We are very happy to now have a fully fenced back yard at Rustle thanks to the talented Will Towell. The children are now safer than before and it should keep the stray animals from using our lawn as a toilet J A garden was also planted and is already producing vegetables.

Please pray for:
·unity
·finances
·children in and around Rustle
·that new board members would have vision for their roles

Meet Henriette

When the prayer letters first started for Rustle, one of the things that was continually listed as a prayer request was that we would find the right person to rent the apartment over Rustle. Well, Henriette was the answer to that prayer. There were quite a few people interested in the apartment but it never seemed to work out quite right or be a suitable fit but when Henriette arrived everything seemed to fall into place and we all seem to agree that God sent her to here in answer to the prayers!

Henriette is faithful to our Church and to our prayer meetings. She prays for the Rustle Church community and for the neighbourhood. She has a great vantage point from her apartment (which she call ‘the lighthouse’)

Henriette is an artist extraordinaire. She spends her free time painting and reading. She has been blessed with a lot of work in her cleaning business. So much so, I think she has above and beyond what she could hope for and has been turning down jobs! We give thanks to God for Henriette for blessing her and for blessing us through her.

this week in an effort to raise funds for his new found life in rustle sam "mattress man" laitenen has storewide sales in every department. pick out your new sleep-set for the low low price of 75 bucks including box-spring. he is clearing out to the bare walls. no reasonable offers will be refused. these mattresses are "gently" used and "we know of their whereabouts." they have come to us kindly from an Inn. not a motel or even a hotel but "an Inn" and with each queen size mattress purchase sam will throw in a pillow. these beds won't last long at this price. some soiling may be found. all sales final.

April 30 - WITH meeting NOTES

In the WITH meeting we discussed Rustle governance and how we could comply with governmental and Free Methodist guidelines and still have it look like Rustle. For more details, click below

We would need a board of 5-7 members (not including Al and Sam as they are paid employees) with a chairperson, treasurer and secretary

Things to look for in choosing a board member:
-age 18 minimum
-want the best for Rustle
-faithful in small things
-moving closer to God
-willing to commit their time, talent and money
-committed to 2 years
-able to make difficult decisions
-responsible
-called in their heart
-a servant
-mature (looks like Jesus)
-willing to sacrifice

Nomination process:
For this year the nominations will come from the community with a nominator and a seconder. We will work toward having a nominating committee for the future

Terms:
The current 3 carry over from the Crazy 8 members (Joel, Lisa, Aphra) will have 1 more year
The new 3/4 members would have a 2 year term with an optional 1 year extension

What the Board would look like:
It would be a community driven board, taking from the WITH meetings and finalizing decisions
Decision making would be using a consensus model (talk it out until all or most have agreed on a decision)
There would be a mix of visionaries/practical people and men and women

For the month of May, we should be praying about/thinking about/ talking to people who we think would be good board members. By the end of May we will hopefully have 4 nominations.

At the end of the meeting, Joel, the treasurer, spoke and said that hopefully the quarterly report would be ready for the next meeting, that he needs people for counting the offering on Sundays and to make sure you use an envelope for cash if you wish to get a tax receipt at the end of the year.
